How to use the Link Health tool to remove broken links, duplicates, and redirects
Purpose
Broken links can harm SEO and user experience. By regularly identifying them and fixing them, you can maintain good SEO rankings and prevent potential bounce rates and indexing issues that could affect conversion.
Set Up
To use the Link health tool, ensure your blog articles are in Letterdrop (you can check by going to Website → Posts). If you're integrated with a CMS, they'll be imported automatically; otherwise, you can manually copy and paste them into Letterdrop using the blog editor.
How to Use
To utilize the Link Health tool, you can review the list of suggested fixes automatically provided or search for an article by title. We will categorize link issues into three buckets:
- Broken links: which encompass 400, 404, and 410 errors. The recommended fix is to remove the URL and keep the text as is.
- Duplicates: instances where the same URL is linked multiple times in the same article. The suggested fix is to remove duplicates after the first instance.
- Redirects: when the URL redirects users to a different page. We suggest changing it to the redirected URL.
You can filter by the type of issue by clicking on the filter icon in the top-right corner, as well as search for a specific article by typing it in the search bar and hitting Enter.
To accept a change, click the green arrow or bulk select them using the checkbox on the left. Once done, they'll appear in a list at the bottom for your review. You can click on the link under the “Page” column to view any of the individual articles, and when you’re ready, you can click “Publish all” to bulk publish the changes.
